Female Filmmaker Spotlight: Kathleen Hepburn

Female Filmmaker Friday is a growing social media trend that encourages those working in the Film and Television industry to take a moment to recognize the talent and contributions of women working behind the scenes.

Vanguarde is thrilled to kick off our own female filmmaker series with a spotlight on powerhouse writer-director client Kathleen Hepburn.

Kathleen is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s 2014 Writer’s Lab, and she has been making waves as a writer/director ever since. Her debut feature, Never Steady, Never Still, was recently nominated for 8 Canadian Screen Awards, notably for Best Motion Picture and Best Original Screenplay. The film premiered at TIFF this past fall and was selected for Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival. It also won the B.C. Emerging Filmmaker Award, the Emerging Canadian Director Award, and the Sea to Sky Award at the 2017 Vancouver International Film Festival.

Kathleen’s short film works have also screened at festivals across North America, and her short Benjamin was listed as one of the top ten films to watch at TIFF last year.
